There are a number of beaches that are accessible from us:

Chatellion de Plage

It is on the way to La Rochelle so can be a good place to divert to on the way to or from La Rochelle. It should take about 45 minutes. It is good for young chidren and is normally fairly easy to park but the beach is very tidal and the sea can sometimes be a trek!

Directions from site

Turn left out of the gates and then right at the crossroads to Ligieul. Drive through the village until you arrive at a T junction, turn right to Surgeres. Drive through the Surgeres rather than round it, it's quicker and more pleasant and follow the signs to La Rochelle. Chatellion de Plage is signposted to the left before La Rochelle. St Georges de dionne and the beaches of Royan.

St Georges de Didonne

St Georges de Didonne is easy to get to, it has a wide promenade with plenty of parking and the beach is very close. There are no problems with the tide and although it is further the roads are faster. It should take about 45 minutes.

Directions from site

Turn left out of the gates and drive out of the village, through La Benate and at the T Junction at the end tuleft. At the first roundabout take a left onto the A10 and go south in the direction of Bordeaux. Come off at the next junction, number 35, signposted for Saintes. Don't come off this road and it will eventually be signposted to Royan, N150. St Georges de Didonne is signposted.

There are other beaches travelling up and down the coast. Towards Royan it is harder to park but there are many restaurants and expensive distractions for the kids. Further down Mescher and beyond the beaches are quieter.
