Futuroscope is located on junction 28 of the A10, about an hour away. It is a large cinematic theme park with more than twenty buildings housing different cinematic experiences including the equivalent of white knuckle rides. The best part is the show at the end of the day, often very late in early summer and therefore too late for young children but it is worth planning your stay around this. Set around a lake, water is sprayed into the air and images are projected onto it giving the impression that beasts are rising from the water. Fireworks and sound add to the excitement.

Le Puy de Fou is not close, at least an hour and a half away and the notion of re-enacted medieval battle may not sound too promising but it is superbly executed with Ben Hur type chariot races.

Aquarium at La Rochelle. There can be a queue to get in, particularly if the weather isn't great but is a very impressive aquarium with sharks that have grown bigger every year.

La Palmyre is located at Royan and is an impressive modern Zoo.

Zoorama is located to the north of us in the Forest of Chize and covers a huge area, which requires a lot of walking. It doesn't have big cats but likes its wolves and bears.
