Ile d'Oleron

It can take an hour to get to Ile d'oleron but on a weekend it can take considerably longer as there is often a queue getting onto the three kilometre bridge which serves the island. The Grande Plage at St Trojan is vast so even if there has been a lengthy queue at the bridge and its not been easy to park close by, when you arrive at the beach there is plenty of space. There is often good surf and this as well as the unpolluted feel of the beach makes it our favorite. Not always ideal for small children.

Directions

There are a number of ways of getting there but this generally works for us. Turn left out of the gates and drive out of the village, through La Benate and at the T Junction at the end crossover in the direction of Rochefort. At the roundabout before Rochefort follow the signs to St Hypoolyte and then from there to something from which there are signs leading you to Ile d'Oleron.
